Callaway Roots Run Deep By the 1940s much of Georgia’s farmland had been severely depleted by years of sustaining cotton crops; the once-fertile landscape was scarred with gullies of red clay. And as the land eroded, so did the economy, and the spirit of Georgia’s farmers. Enter Cason Callaway, a Georgia native and successful industrialist with the soul of a farmer. Callaway had made his fortune from cotton, yet the situation caused by that very crop disturbed him. He saw the desperate condition of the land he so loved, and, being by nature a problem-solver, was inspired to experiment with alternative methods of farming. The innovations he developed rejuvenated the soil and led to significant improvements in the health of Georgia’s crops...and their profitability. The Story Unfolds ...and continues |
